VR Sketch and Sketchup for Schools

Is it possible to build models in Sketchup for schools (aka Sketchup EDU) and export them to VR Sketch?

Hi

You would need a desktop sketchup in order to run VR Sketch. I don’t know what sketchup for schools does, but it does not look like it would allow you to run any plugins, so VR Sketch won’t work.

It dont work with SketchUp free/online. How do I use it with students?

They draw in SketchUp online mode. That’s works on every computer also at home. Iff they want to see there models in VR I use the cool app VRSketch.

How?

They send it to my by mail or we use a Trimble cloud. I have as a teacher on my laptop a SketchUp pro version. In Dutch 60 euro. So I can use and download extension’s like VR Sketch. I open the students model and upload it to vr sketch with her/his name. They got the vr glasses and open vr sketch what is paired to my account.

That’s a easy way how you can use it with SketchUp online/free.

And I love VRSketch.

You don’t even need to buy SketchUp. Look for SketchUp make 2017. They legally have to keep that version free, but they hide the link.
Almost everyone who makes plugins tries to make them compatible with the free version.

ho lo stesso problema
Sono un docente, utilizzo SketchUp for School e vorrei far provare ai ragazzi per un paio di lezioni VR Sketch.
Fino a pochi mesi fa utilizzavo SketchUP Viewer ma ora l’hanno ritirato… che peccato.
Inizialmente volevo scaricare e installare SketchUp Pro Educational ma la licenza ha comunque un costo e la scuola non mi rimborserebbe.
Ho quindi preso in considerazione la soluzione di scaricare SketchUp make 2017 e disabilitare la connessione internet ma poi come li carico i file sul cloud di VR? dovrei continuamente modificare le regole firewall, oltretutto sui PC della scuola e la cosa è fuori discussone.
C’è anche un problema di compatibilità con i file che producono i ragazzi quindi non va bene.
Perchè VR Sketh non permette di caricare i file direttamente dalla pagina?
durante il caricamento avviene qualche conversione? non credo…

Good morning everyone.
I’m having the same problem.
I’m a teacher, I use SketchUp for School, and I’d like to let the students try out VR Sketch for a couple of lessons.
Until a few months ago, I used SketchUp Viewer, but now they’ve withdrawn it… what a shame.
Initially, I wanted to download and install SketchUp Pro Educational, but the license still costs money, and the school won’t reimburse me.
So I considered downloading SketchUp Make 2017 and disabling my internet connection, but how do I upload the files to the VR cloud? I’d have to constantly change the firewall rules, especially on the school PCs, and that’s out of the question.
There’s also a compatibility issue with the files the students produce, so it’s not a good idea. Why doesn’t VR Sketh allow you to upload files directly from the page?
Some conversion occurs during the upload.…

Hi! I don’t get why you need to disable the internet connection… The solution described in this other post probably works for you too: Is there any way to use VR Sketch without SketchUp Pro? . It’s a workaround, but it should work.

grazie mille, in effetti l’estensione per convertire funziona bene e ora make 2017 mi apre i file degli studenti.
riesco a caricarlo verso VR Sketch ma mi da comunque un errore di compatibilità

I guess that by “compatibility” you mean issues during the conversion from the newer Sketchup files to the older Make 2017 format. It’s the best we can offer for now, but we are considering letting people upload .skp files directly to our server (see the other post for why we didn’t do it so far).
