Hi all!
Here is VR Sketch 27.0.0:
This is a relatively small update over the previous 26.2. Here are the main news:
-
The Sculpt tool was changed to pick points in a sphere around the central point, instead of in a potentially infinite cylinder. You can now also use “Sculpt” with pre-selected edges and faces: the selection moves as a solid whole, and the sculpting applies to the points that are connected to the selection. As usual, use the joystick to increase or decrease the maximum distance. Also, a new “space twist” mode lets you apply some rotation to the points around the axis (rotating the selection too, if there is one) (oops, the software has a typo! It says “spacial twist”. It should be “spatial” or just “space”. Will be fixed in the next release!).
-
The “box-selection” that lets you select objects by drawing a box around them has now got a third mode: in addition to “select things that are entirely inside the box” and “select things that touch the box”, we added “draw a dynamic bubble instead of a box and select everything as it touches the bubble”. The bubble logic is the same one as the in the Notes tool, when you want to remove some of the notes you drew.
-
On standalone Quest, you can now enable the ambient occlusion effect (small shadows near the corners) from the settings, Rendering page. A different algorithm is used than the one on PC. It works with a roughly acceptable performance cost at least on the Quest 3, but is turned off by default for now—it’s not free of visual artifacts, so it’s considered experimental for now.
-
The sun position can now be set by choosing the date and time even if you are not currently connected to Sketchup, e.g. when viewing cloud models. This only works if the model itself was uploaded with the latest version of VR Sketch. If a model was uploaded with an older version, you need to re-upload it (it didn’t store the latitude, longitude and direction-of-north needed to compute the position of the sun from the date and time).
-
In “move freehand”, there is now an option (in the context menu) that enables changing the scale as well as moving and rotating the selection. You need to use the other hand to do so. With the option turned off, using the other hand rotates the selection but doesn’t rescale it, like it did before.
-
The amount of tools in the toolbar has grown over the years… so we added a way to help you find what you’re looking for if you know its approximate location: icons near the controller but currently hidden are now a little bit visible as a transparent shadow. (Note that if you prefer, you can show all icons at once instead: go to Settings, Options page, “Configure the toolbox”.)
-
…and various small bug fixes, as usual.
Enjoy!
