Hi all,
Here is VR Sketch 27.1—download link. This is a small update over release 27.0.
What’s new since release 27.0:
-
VR Sketch should load models a lot faster now. On at least one large model, we are measuring speed boosts of at least 2x before the model is ready in VR Sketch.
-
Fixed a bug introduced by Sketchup in its latest version, 2026.1: tweaking the sun’s shadow direction in VR didn’t work.
-
Added a tool similar to the Drape tool of Sketchup. It is experimental right now. There are two modes: “drape”, which projects the contour of a shape over the existing faces (e.g. a terrain); and an “extrude” variant which also makes walls connecting the new contour to the original shape. Note that this Drape tool is now placed above the Sculpt tool, and the Tube tool moved to the right.
-
Added a way to hide all edges in specific subgroups. This can be useful e.g. if you import a very detailed 3D model from the component warehouse or elsewhere, and that model shows in VR as mostly a mess of black lines. See the Settings dialog, Rendering page, the Edge display options sub-page.
-
The “profile” edges, if you enable them, appeared particularly thick on Quest 2 standalone. This has been tweaked a bit.
-
More small fixes, as usual.
That’s all for now. We are working on yet another potential big improvement in performance for huge models on PC VR—which we hope will work out, but we aren’t sure about that yet!
